Women's Soccer Strikes Again, Wins 1-0 On Senior Day

WEST HARTFORD, Conn.  The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) women's soccer team captured its ninth win of the 2021 season thanks to a second-half score from junior forward Maxine Muscatello (Berlin, Conn.), who led the Blue Jays to a 1-0 win over the Rivier University (RIV) Raiders on the USJ Soccer Field Friday night, in another Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) match.

USJ flat-out dominated the stat sheet, outshooting the Raiders 28-2, and holding a 9-1 corner kicks edge, but time and time again, they could not find the back of the cage. Finally, in the 53rd minute, Muscatello utilized her quickness to break free for a strike that went right past the Rivier defense for what would eventually become the game-winning goal. It was her team-leading fourth goal of the season. Sophomore goalie Victoria Schaffner (Waterbury, Conn.) picked up another shutout win for the Blue Jays in the process. Six women's soccer seniors were honored before kickoff to the delight of their fans, including captain Jenna Banta (Montville, Conn.), Ariana Gazaferi (Southington, Conn.), captain Lindsey Montminy (Vernon, Conn.), captain Emily Remicio (West Hartford, Conn.), captain Ali O'Neill (Litchfield, Conn.), and student manager Nicole Ringuette (Moodus, Conn.).
