Blue & Gold Swim School

REGISTRATIONS ARE NO LONGER BEING ACCEPTED AS WE HAVE REACHED CAPACITY.

Hello Swim Parents! 

The Blue and Gold Swim School will be offering lessons on the following dates: March 5, March 19, March 26, April 2 and April 16.

Lessons will take place at the following time slots: 4-4:30 p.m., 4:30-5 p.m., 5-5:30 p.m., and 5:30-6 p.m. 

All four time slots will be available on each day that lessons are offered.

Swim lessons are $150 for non-alumni/non-faculty/non-staff and $130 for all USJ Alumni/Faculty/Staff.

Once you have registered your child, you must send an email to Coach Alex at alalbert@usj.edu with your child’s name, age, and preferred level and time slot. Coach Alex will then send you a confirmation email.

Skills Student will learn: 

-Enter water with support 

-Supported front/back float 

-Supported rolling from front to back/back to front 

-Supported gliding 

-Supported flutter kick 

-Supported front crawl arms/scoops  

-Jumping in from side with support  

-Put face in water 

-Blowing bubbles 

Skills Student will learn: 

-Enter water safely using ramp, ladder, or side 

-Independent front and back floating 

-Independent rolling from front to back/back to front 

-Front crawl arms and kicks 

-Put face in water 

-Retrieve underwater objects 

-Jumping in from side  

-Exit water safely using ramp, ladder, or side 

 

Skills Student will learn: 

-Enter water safely by stepping or jumping from side 

-Independent front and back floating 

-Independently swim on front and back 

-Gliding  

-Freestyle with side breathing 

-Retrieving objects underwater  

-Treading water 

-Jumping into deeper water 

-Compact dives  

Skills Student will learn: 

-Enter water safely by jumping into deep water from side 

-Independently swim backstroke and freestyle 

-Intro to Elementary backstroke 

-Intro to breaststroke 

-Retrieve objects in deeper water 

-Intro to turning at the wall 

-Treading water 

-Diving while in a kneeling position  

-Butterfly kick with kickboard  

Skills Student will learn: 

-Enter water safely by a compact dive or standing dive 

-Independently swim backstroke, freestyle, and breaststroke 

-Swimming underwater 

-Retrieve objects in deeper water 

-Treading water 

-Open wall turns 

-Intro to Butterfly  

-Freestyle flip turns 

-Standing dive from starting blocks 

 

Skills Student will learn: 

-Enter water safely by a standing dive 

-Swim freestyle and backstroke for 50 yards 

-Swim breaststroke and butterfly for 25 yards 

-Tread water for 5 minutes 

-Retrieve objects from deep water 

-Breaststroke and butterfly turns  

-Breaststroke pull out 

-Freestyle flip turns 

 


How Do I Know What Level My Child Is?

Level 1: (No parent involvement) – Generally ages 3-5. Needs support most of the time or at all times. May have some hesitation or fear of water.  

Level 2: Has had some previous water/lesson exposure. May still have some hesitation or fear of water.  Willing to try new things. Will put mouth in to blow bubbles. Will float on back or front with support.  

Level 3: Will put face in water. Will float on back or front with limited support or independently. Willing to go underwater. Able to independently swim forward for a short distance. Will jump into the pool from side with support.  

Level 4: Can independently swim front crawl with face in water. Can swim some on back. No fear of deep water. Will jump or compact dive into the deep end.  

Level 5: Can swim front crawl and backstroke. Can do a compact or standing dive.  Has learned breaststroke kick.  

Level 6: Can swim freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke for one lap. Can swim half a lap butterfly. Can do a standing dive from side or starting block.
