About Athletics

As an NCAA Division III institution, the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) houses 16 varsity teams, intramurals, and numerous recreation and wellness programs. The University is a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC).

The O'Connell Athletic Center features a newly renovated fitness center, indoor track, six-lane pool, two gymnasiums, a varsity weight room, and newly renovated locker rooms. The OC's outdoor complex includes six pristine tennis courts, a turf soccer/lacrosse/field hockey field, turf softball field, and grass practice field.

The University of Saint Joseph Athletic Department has been fully established as an NCAA Division III athletic program since the fall of 1993. The Blue Jays have won GNAC championships in women's volleyball, women's basketball, women's tennis, softball, men's basketball, men's soccer, and men's lacrosse. The University of Saint Joseph also offers varsity programs in women's soccer, men's cross country, women's cross country, women's lacrosse, men's swimming & diving, women's swimming & diving, men's tennis, field hockey, and baseball.

In 2002, the then Saint Joseph College athletic department was the recipient of the USA TODAY/NCAA Foundation Academic Achievement Award for having the highest overall percentage of graduating student-athletes among the nation's Division III institutions.

In keeping with the University's educational and athletic mission statement, all students must be in good academic standing as determined by the University and must also maintain full-time undergraduate status for eligibility on a varsity team. The athletic department at the University of Saint Joseph complements students' academic experience with a competitive physical regimen. Participation in athletics develops students' leadership skills, strengthens their problem-solving capabilities, and allows them to maintain their physical, mental, and emotional fitness.

Take exit 43 off I-84 East or West. At end of the ramp, take a right and an immediate left onto Trout Brook Drive. Continue straight on Trout Brook Drive until the intersection of Trout Brook Drive and Asylum Avenue. Take a right on Asylum Avenue and a left into the entrance of USJ. Follow the road to the back of campus. The O’Connell Athletic Center is at the back of the campus next to the turf field.
