Promotional Activities

To protect the eligibility of Bluejays student-athletes, please reach out to USJ’s Compliance Office for participation in charitable or fundraising events, other promotional activities and student-athlete appearances in the media. 

USJ, fraternity, sorority or student government organization, the GNAC conference or a non-institutional charitable educational or nonprofit agency may use a Bluejay’s student-athlete’s name, picture or appearance to support its charitable or educational activities. The following conditions must be met. Any promotional activity not listed is specifically prohibited:

  • Student-athlete receives written approval to participate from USJ’s president 
  • The activity, in which the student-athlete participates, does not involve co-sponsorship, advertisement or promotion by a commercial agency
  • The name or picture of the student-athlete with remaining eligibility may not appear on an USJ’s printed promotional item (e.g., poster, calendar) that includes a reproduction of a product with which a commercial entity is associated if the commercial entity's officially registered regular trademark or logo also appears on the item
  • The student-athlete does not miss class
  • All money derived from the activity or project goes directly to USJ, the GNAC Conference, or the charitable, educational or nonprofit agency.
  • The USJ’s student-athlete may accept actual and necessary expenses from the member institution, GNAC Conference or the charitable, educational or nonprofit agency related to participation in such activity
  • USJ’s student-athlete’s name, picture, or appearances is not used to promote the commercial ventures of any nonprofit agency
  • Any commercial items with names or pictures of the Bluejay’s student-athletes may be sold only by the University of Saint Joseph, the GNAC conference or NCAA, through outlets controlled by USJ, the GNAC conference or NCAA or outlets controlled by the charitable or educational organization
  • The student-athlete signs a release statement authorizing the use of their name, image or appearance in a manner consistent with the requirements of this section
