USJ Punches Playoff Ticket In 1-0 Win At Colby-Sawyer

NEW LONDON, N.H.  The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) women's soccer team claimed its sixth 1-0 win of the season, this one over the Chargers of Colby-Sawyer College (CSC) in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) road match Saturday afternoon. With the victory, the Blue Jays clinched a playoff spot in the upcoming GNAC Tournament. It marks the 21st consecutive postseason appearance for the Blue Jays, the longest streak by any team in school history.

Junior forward Maxine Muscatello (Berlin, Conn.) once again played hero with the game-winning goal in the 49th minute. The strike found the lower right corner of the cage, and provided the necessary momentum to keep the visitors in front for good. It's Muscatello's third goal in the last four games, and her team-leading fifth of the season. Sophomore goalie Victoria Schaffner (Waterbury, Conn.) logged her conference-leading seventh shutout of 2021 also.

Score:  Saint Joseph 1, Colby-Sawyer College 0
Records: USJ (10-3-1, 7-3-1 GNAC), CSC (4-9-0, 4-7-0 GNAC)

COACH QUOTE [Jenna Kalwa] "It took us awhile to find our tempo and raise our game today. We've faced some challenges late in the season, but our defending has been consistent and the reason we walk away with wins, even with our backs against the wall. Maxine Muscatello put in a well-deserved goal, one that we certainly needed today."
