Shutout Streak Continues As Muscatello Scores Winning Goal

BOSTON, Mass.  The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) women's soccer team extended its shutout streak to an incomparable six games (560 total minutes), en route to a 1-0 victory over the Saints of Emmanuel College (EC) in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) contest at Roberto Clemente Field Wednesday night.

Junior forward Maxine Muscatello (Berlin, Conn.) scored the game's only goal in the 18th minute to propel USJ to its fifth victory of the season. The former Berlin High School Redcoat now has two goals and two assists on the season (tied for most on the team in assists). It was once again a showcase in defensive prowess, as the Blue Jays' backline stoutly defended their goal. Emmanuel had just three shots and one shot on goal in total the entire game.

GAME INFORMATION
Score:  Saint Joseph 1, Emmanuel 0
Records: USJ 5-0-1 (2-0-1 GNAC), EC 2-4-2 (1-2-0 GNAC)
Location: Roberto Clemente Field | Boston, Mass.

COACH QUOTE [Jenna Kalwa] "We went into this game understanding Emannuel is a tough opponent. The game was a physical challenge and the first half was really anybody's game. Maxine [Muscatello] was able to find the net on a great feed from Emily [Remicio] giving us the lead we needed. Congratulations to the defense for maintaining another shutout. Victoria [Schaffner], Gabriella [Gulino], Tatiana [Bilbraut], Jenna [Banta], and Elizabeth [Garlock] continue to make the stops we need to earn them."

GAME NOTES

  • Sophomore goalie Victoria Schaffner (Waterbury, Conn.) remains the only goalie in the GNAC with a 1.000 save percentage, and one of only nine goalies in the nation to do so.
  • The Blue Jays have the second fewest saves in the GNAC (19), only further solidifying the backline defense in their quest to deny all offensive traffic on their side of the field.
  • USJ is now 5-5-2 against EC since 2010.
