Women's Soccer Suffers First Road Loss, 1-0, At Elms

CHICOPEE, Mass.  The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) women's soccer team was dealt a tough loss, 1-0, by the Blazers of Elms College (EC), in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) road contest on Leary Field Wednesday evening.

Freshman midfielder Jenna Zup (Berlin, Conn.) had a last-second header that went just wide as time expired after a free kick from the right side from senior midfielder and captain Ali O'Neill (Litchfield, Conn.). The Blazers capitalized on a rare mistake from the USJ defense early in the second half, as senior forward Morgan Foucault (Putnam, Conn.) made a great juke just outside the box before sending a strike past sophomore goalie Victoria Schaffner (Waterbury, Conn.) for the lone goal of the match. It marked just the second goal allowed this season for Schaffner.

Still, brilliant effort by the team, and the ability to be adaptable in a tough situation. Unfortunately, we were not able to get the job done. [Elizabeth] Garlock had an incredible game. She really showcased her tenacity and versatility."
