
Field Hockey Thrashes Anna Maria To Open GNAC Play, 6-0, Saturday Afternoon
WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) field hockey team dismantled the Anna Maria College (AMC) AMCATS, 6-0, during the team's Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) opener Saturday afternoon at the USJ Field Hockey Field in West Hartford, Conn. Win the win, the Blue Jays improve to 4-2 on the year and 1-0 in GNAC play, while the AMCATS fall to 0-4 overall and 0-1 in the conference.
KEY HIGHLIGHTS
- USJ wasted little time scoring, finding the back of the cage at the 2:20 mark as junior forward Aurelia Barker (Thomaston, Conn.) picked out senior forward Maya Tomko (Sparta, N.J.), who fired her shot into the goal, establishing a 1-0 lead.
- The Blue Jays continued to pepper the net in the first quarter, but could not find a second goal, holdign a 1-0 edge after the first.
- USJ found extended the lead to 2-0 at the 22:45 mark, after junior midfielder Devan Fox (Granville, Mass.) dished out an assist to sophomore Alyssa Milligan (Cumberland, R.I.), who netted her first goal of the game.
- Fox would turn provider again at the 26:33 mark, finding Barker, who increased the lead to 3-0. The score would hold entering the halftime break.
- Barker wasted little time netting her second goal of the game in the second half, scoring at the 36-minute mark in the third after receiving a pass from junior Isabella Pelletier (Weare, N.H.) to extend the gap to 4-0.
- USJ continued to roll offesnviely as junior Ariana Komonaj increased the lead to 5-0 at the 43:50 mark, after an assist from freshman Eryn Ross (Westminster, Vt.).
- Komonaj would turn provider to open the fourth quarter, picking out a pass to junior Kaedence Brower (Hartford, Vt.), who fired her shot into the net, increasing the gap to 6-0 at the 47:16 mark.
- The USJ defense continued to hold AMC at bay, not allowing a single shot in the fourth quarter to secure the 6-0 victory.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Barker and Tomko netted their third goals of the season.
- Fox paced the team with two assists.
- Senior Abby Delgado (Southington, Conn.) got the start in net for USJ, picking up the win (3-1) after tallying one save in 54:13 minutes of play.
- Freshman Abby Demers (Westbrook, Conn.) played the remaining 5:47 in goal, and did not face a single shot.

The Blue Jays continue Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) on Wednesday, February 18, heading to Brighton, Mass., to face Simmons University. Start time against the Sharks at Daly Field is set for 5:00 p.m.
