MAHWAH, N.J. – Freshman Grace Kociszewski (Thomaston, Conn.) scored a late game-winner to lift the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) field hockey team past Ramapo College (Ramapo), 1-0, Friday night at the Athletic Center Turf Field in Mahwah, N.J. Win the win, the Blue Jays improve to 2-2 on the year, while the Roadrunners drop to 1-2.

KEY HIGHLIGHTS

  • USJ would force a pair of saves out of the Ramapo goalie early in the first quarter, while the host Roadrunners were unable to generate a shot on frame as the game remained scoreless after the first quarter.
  • Ramapo dominated the second quarter of play, forcing four saves out of sophomore goalkeeper Jaci Felix-Hull (East Lyme, Conn.), who kept the game deadlocked at 0-0 entering the halftime break.
  • The third quarter was a battle of the midfield until late, as USJ nearly found the games first goal, but were denied by a trio of saves by Ramapo, keeping the game scoreless entering the fourth.
  • USJ continued to pile on the pressure early in the fourth, and were rewarded at the 49:25 mark. Kociszewski would see her initial shot be saved, but was quick to the rebound as she slotted the second-chance opportunity home, establishing a 1-0 Blue Jays lead.
  • Ramapo would not be able to test Felix-Hull throughout the remainder of the quarter, as USJ took home a 1-0 victory.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

  • Kociszewski netted her fifth career goal.
  • The Roadrunners held a 16-9 edge in shots, but the Blue Jays had a 7-6 edge in shots on goal.
  • Ramapo generated nine penalty corner opportunities compared to three for USJ.
  • Felix-Hull played all 60 minutes in goal for USJ, tallying six saves to pick up the win (1-1) and the shutout.
