Shores Leads Women's Cross Country at Founding Tree Invitational

AMHERST, Mass. – Sophomore Faith Shores (West Simsbury, Conn.) paced the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) women's cross-country team with a fourth-place finish, guiding the Blue Jays to a seventh-place team finish at the Founding Tree Invitational at Hampshire College in Amherst, Mass., Saturday morning. The finish marks the second consecutive race that Shores has placed inside the top-five.

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • Shores placed fourth overall after crossing the line with a 6K time of 26:04.45.
  • Graduate student Ashley Rufo (Pittsfield, Mass.) was the next Blue Jay to cross the line, finishing in 40th after posting a time of 33:07.4. 
  • Freshman Paige Reiger (New Fairfield, Conn.) followed closely behind with a 47th place finish after crossing the line in a time of 34:43.2. 
  • Freshman Gabriella DelSanto (Canton, Conn.) recorded a 48th place finish after posting a time of 35:00.97. 
  • Senior Jaelynn Solorzano (Wallingford, Conn.) rounded out the USJ lineup with a 49th place finish after crossing the line in a time of 35:04.73. 
  • Western New England took home the women's team title, tallying 14 points ahead of opponents Paul Smith's, who tallied 60 points. 

UP NEXT 

The women's cross country returns to action next Saturday, October 7 for the James Early Invitational. Hosted by Westfield State University at Stanley Park in Westfield, Mass., the women's 6K is set to begin at 10:30 a.m.
