Women's Cross Country Places Fourth at Cardinal Invitational

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – Sophomore Faith Shores (West Simsbury, Conn.) paced the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) women's cross country team with an 11th-place finish to guide the Blue Jays to a fourth-place team finish at the Cardinal Invitational at the Wes Fuhrman '05 Trails Cross Country Course in Middletown, Conn., Saturday morning. The Blue Jays finished ahead of intrastate and Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) foes Mitchell College on the day. 

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • Shores paced the Blue Jays with a 5K time of 22:20.9, a significant four-minute improvement on her time from last year's Cardinal Invitational
  • Freshman Aliyannah Makein (Durham, Conn.) was the next Blue Jay to cross the line, continuing her strong start to her debut campaign by finishing in 19th after posting a time of 27:31.9 
  • Senior Jaelynn Solorzano (Wallingford, Conn.) followed with a 24th place finish after crossing the line in a time of 31:29.2 
  • Alexia Grech trailed with a 27th place finish after posting a time of 36:00.4 
  • Karina Deros rounded out the USJ lineup with a 28th place finish after crossing the line in a time of 36:37.7 
  • Hosts Wesleyan took home the women's team title after placing all five scoring runners inside the top-five for 15 points.

UP NEXT 

The women's cross country team returns to action next on Saturday, September 16 for the UMass Dartmouth Invitational, hosted by UMass Dartmouth. Taking place at the Robert Dowd Cross Country Course in Dartmouth, Mass., the women's 5K is set to begin at noon.
