Carey, Nanos Earn All-GNAC Women's Volleyball Honors

WINTHROP, Mass. - Senior middle hitter Shannon Carey (Bayport, N.Y.) of the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) women's volleyball team was tabbed to the All-Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Third Team, it was announced Tuesday by the league's front office. It marks the first career All-Conference nod for Carey. Additionally, junior defensive specialist Katina Nanos (Lebanon, Conn.) was selected to the GNAC All-Sportsmanship Team, as the conference unveiled its year-end awards, which are voted on by the league's 14 head coaches.

Competing in all 27 matches this season, Carey led the team and was top-15 in the league in numerous statistical categories. Offensively, Carey paced the Blue Jays with 262 kills, good for 2.79 kills per set, which was the 10th-highest total in the GNAC. Her collective point total of 309.5 points saw her finish 11th in the GNAC. She also led the team defensively with a team-best 20 blocks on the year, while finishing second on the Blue Jays with 187 digs (1.99 digs per set).
