Volleyball Back On Track With Clean Sweep Thursday Night

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) Volleyball Team took care of business Thursday night, sweeping the Lynx of Lesley University (LU) in a non-conference home match inside the O'Connell Center, 3-0.

The Blue Jays dominated from the opening serve, racing out to a 25-11 first-set victory. The momentum was all theirs as kills came from every direction, including from junior middle hitter Shannon Carey (Bayport, N.Y.), who led USJ to a dominant 25-3 second-set triumph. The Blue Jays had the freedom to go to the bench in set three, and behind the efforts of some new faces, including sophomore outside hitter Emily Messier (Hebron, Conn.), who had the game-ending kill, USJ claimed a much-needed three-set sweep as they get ready for more conference play ahead.

GAME INFORMATION
Score: Saint Joseph 3, Lesley 0
Set Scores: 25-11, 25-3, 25-14
Records: USJ 3-6, LU 0-10
Location: O'Connell Center | West Hartford, Conn.

COACH QUOTE [Sheila Gisbrecht] "We got to try some different situations, set up a few different lineups, and we got some people touches that they needed so that they could contribute in game situations. In a match like this, we just try to keep our energy and use those moments as teaching points. Heading into this weekend's tri-match [against Colby-Sawyer and Lasell], we will be taking a look at some film, see what their tendencies are, as we are trying to get better at those things offensively. With the defense the way it has been, and the passing, if we just add some offense to it, we will make things interesting."
