Volleyball Tripped Up At Home By Trinity, 3-1

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) volleyball team dropped a non-conference contest in four sets, 3-1, to the Trinity College Bantams (TRIN) inside the newly completed O'Connell Athletic Center Tuesday night.

The Blue Jays, fresh off their come-from-behind, five-set win Saturday, took the first set 25-21, but failed to reach the 20-point mark in each of the next three sets, as the Bantams utilized a consistent stream of attacks to take the win (outscored USJ 75-39 in sets 2-4). Senior outside hitter and captain Hannah Benson, who had a career-high 22 kills in the win Saturday, led the Blue Jays once again with 11 on Tuesday evening.

Score: Trinity 3, Saint Joseph 1
Set Scores: 21-25, 25-10, 25-17, 25-12

COACH QUOTE [Sheila Gisbrecht] "Trinity is a great program. It was nice to see us hang with them in the first set. Unfortunately when Coach Bowman's team pushed back, we didn't show the same fortitude that we did this past weekend. We showed we have the potential to compete with a strong program, but our inconsistency and mental toughness needs to develop to push us to that next level."

GAME NOTES

  • Three Bantams had double-digit kills on the night.
  • Second-ever collegiate contest held inside the newly completed O'Connell Center.
  • First time winning a set against the Bantams in over a decade.
  • Third meeting with Trinity since 2010. The Blue Jays are 0-3 in those matches.

NUMBER TO KNOW

14 – The Bantams had twice as many service aces as the Blue Jays (seven), and nearly twice as many kills (49-29).
