Volleyball Dominates in Straight Sets Over Lesley

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. - The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) women's volleyball team dominated the visiting Lesley University Lynx on Tuesday evening inside the O'Connell Center sweeping the Lynx, 3-0. The Blue Jays defeated the Lynx in straight sets (25-11, 25-20, 25-19) to improve their record to 4-5 overall on the season, while the Lynx slip to 1-7 with the setback. USJ will be back in action next on Saturday with a road tri-match at Salem State with the Vikings and the MCLA Trailblazers.

Sophomore Aminah Tsonga (Plainville, Conn.) finished with five kills and a match-high seven service aces as the Blue Jays tallied 20 aces as a team in the victory. Freshman Nina Lestrud (Torrington, Conn.) posted a team-high six kills, hit .364, and chipped in with four service aces, while freshman Hannah Benson (Terryville, Conn.) added five kills and hit an errorless .556 for the match. Benson also led the defensive effort with a team-best 10 digs. Senior captain Brenna Miller (McCleary, Wash.) had a solid night all around with a match-high 20 assists to go with five kills and seven digs.

The USJ women's volleyball team returns to action next on Saturday with a tri-match at Salem State against the Vikings and MCLA Trailblazers. USJ will first play MCLA at 3:00 p.m. followed by a match with Salem State at approximately 5:00 p.m.
