Women's Tennis Falls on the Road at Roger Williams Wednesday
BRISTOL, R.I. – The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) women's tennis team saw its three-match winning streak snapped Wednesday afternoon on the road at non-conference foes Roger Williams University (RWU), 6-1, at the RWU Tennis Courts in Bristol, R.I. The Blue Jays entered the match with three-consecutive shutout victories. With the result, the Blue Jays move to 3-2 on the year while the Hawks move to 4-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- RWU opened the match with a victory at No. 3 doubles, as the team of Gracie McCarthy and Barielle Petroniro defeated USJ's duo of graduate student Kate Hardy (Southington, Conn.) and sophomore Nina Gardella (Lebanon, Conn.), 6-2.
- The Hawks secured the sole doubles point at No. 1 doubles as graduate student Olivia Santoro (Cheshire, Conn.) and freshman Maddie Rossetti (Hamden, Conn.) dropped a 6-2 decision to Gianna Ferraro and Izzy Pecora.
- The Blue Jays picked up a victory at No. 2 doubles, as junior Liliana Garcia (Wethersfield, Conn.) and freshman Shelly Sirisavath (East Hartford, Conn.) secured a hard fought 7-5 victory.
- The Hawks increased the gap to 2-0 after No. 6 singles, as Petroniro defeated junior Gia Alvarez (Meriden, Conn.) in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1.
- Ferraro extended the advantage to 3-0 after No. 1 singles, defeating her former teammate Santoro in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3.

- Adriana Palmieri made it 5-0 for the hosts at No. 5 singles, taking down former Hawk Hardy in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3.
- Sirisavath had the match of the day at No. 3 singles, forcing a tiebreaker after dropping the opening set, 6-2, and rebounding with a 6-4 win in set two, but fell in heartbreaking fashion, 12-10 in the tiebreaking set to Valentina Abarca.
- Rossetti maintained her perfect singles record at No. 2 singles, preventing a RWU sweep with a 6-4, 6-4, straight set victory over Pecora.
