
Simoes Breaks 3-Meter Diving Program Record; Blue Jays Finish Fifth at GNAC Championships
WORCESTER, Mass. – Sophomore Sophia Simoes of the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) women's swimming and diving team set a new program record in 3-meter diving, as the Blue Jays wrapped up the 2025 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) championships on Sunday inside the WPI Sports & Recreation Center in Worcester, Mass. The Blue Jays tallied 463 points across the three-day meet to finish in fifth place.
TOP PERFORMANCES
- 100 Yard Free – Freshman Charlotte Poltronieri (Enfield, Conn.) topped the timing sheet for USJ, finishing in ninth-place with a tiem of 1:01.09.
- 50 Yard Breaststroke – Sophomore Isabella Castrillo (Rocky Hill, Conn.) finished in 13th, tallying a time of 40.10 seconds.
- 1650 Yard Free – Senior Emily Beyer (Prospect, Conn.) finished in seventh place, posting a time of 21:12.75.
- 100 Yard Back - Sophomore Karina Deros (Watertown, Conn.) paced USJ with a 12th-place finish, recording a time of 1:25.00.
- 200 Yard Fly - Freshman Alina Niemczyk (Vernon, Conn.) brought home the bronze medal, finishing third after recording a time of 2:30.27.
- 200 Yard IM - Niemczyk paced the team with a ninth-place finish, postinga time of 2:38.43.
- 3 Meter Diving - Simoes broke the program record in the event, tallying a score of 297.60 points to win the silver medal.
- 400 Medley Relay - The team of Poltronieri, senior Amy Mamica (Rocky Hill, Conn.), Niemczyk and freshman Peyton Tyler (Killingworth, Conn.) finished in seventh place, combining for a time of 4:44.69.
