Women's Swimming & Diving Fifth After First Day of GNAC Championships

WORCESTER, Mass. – The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) women's swimming and diving team began the 2025 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) championships on Friday, tallying 147 points to sit in fifth place after the first day of action inside the WPI Sports & Recreation Center in Worcester, Mass.

TOP PERFORMANCES 

• 200 Yard Medley Relay – The team of freshman Charlotte Poltronieri (Enfield, Conn.), senior Amy Mamica (Rocky Hill, Conn.), freshman Alina Niemczyk (Vernon, Conn.) and sophomore Alexia Grech (Burlington, Conn.) finished in fifth place, posting a time of 2:03.50.
• 200 Yard Free – Grech paced the team in the event, finishing in seventh place after posting a time of 2:15.59.
• 50 Yard Fly – Niemczyk topped the timing sheet for USJ, placing fifth after touching the wall in 29.08 seconds.
• 100 Yard Breaststroke - Sophomore Isabella Castrillo (Rocky Hill, Conn.) was the lone Blue Jay in the event, finishing in 14th with a time of 1:25.04.
• 200 Yard Back -  Sophomore Karina Deros (Watertown, Conn.) paced USJ with an 11th-place finish, tallying a time of 3:04.50.
• 1000 Yard Free - Senior Emily Beyer (Prospect, Conn.) paced the team in the event, placing tenth with a time of 12:41.90.
• 400 Free Relay - The team of Grech, Niemczyk, Poltronieri and Grech finished in fifth place, combining for a time of 4:02.64.

UP NEXT

The Blue Jays continue the GNAC Championships tomorrow, Saturday, February 8. Prelims begin at 10:00 a.m. inside the WPI Sports & Recreation Center in Worcester, Mass., with finals beginning at roughly 6:00p.m.
