Women's Swimming & Diving Falls to Gordon During Senior Day Saturday

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. - The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) women's swimming and diving team fell at home to Gordon College, 181-91, during Senior Day Saturday afternoon inside the Bruyette Natatorium in West Hartford, Conn. Prior to the meet, the Blue Jays honored seniors Emily Beyer (Propsect, Conn.) and Amy Mamica (Rocky Hill, Conn.) during a special senior day celebration.

TOP PERFORMANCES

  • 200 Yard Medley Relay – The team of freshman Charlotte Poltronieri (Enfield, Conn.), Mamica, freshman Alina Niemczyk (Vernon, Conn.) and sophomore Alexia Grech (Burlington, Conn.) finished in second place after combining for a time of 2:09.58.
  • 1000 Yard Free –  Beyer paced the team in the event, placing second with a time of 13:31.23.
  • 200 Yard Free – Poltronieri finished in second place, touching the wall in a time of 2:20.78.
  • 50 Yard Back - Sophomore Karina Deros (Watertown, Conn.) was the lone Blue Jay in the event, placing second with a time of 38.05 seconds.
  • 50 Yard Breaststroke – Mamica paced USJ in the event, finishing in second place with a time of 37.22 seconds.
  • 200 Yard Fly - Niemczyk won the event for the Blue Jays, posting a time of 2:34.38.
  • 50 Yard Free - Grech finished in second place, tallying a time of 28.21 seconds.
  • 1 Meter Diving - Sophomore Sophia Simoes (Watertown, Conn.) won the event, recording a score of 135.20 points.
  • 100 Yard Free - Grech finished in second place, posting a time of 1:03.20.
  • 200 Yard Back - Deros paced USJ with a third place finish after notching a time of 3:06.93.
  • 200 Yard Breaststroke - Sophomore Isabella Castrillo (Rocky Hill, Conn.) finished in second place, touching the wall in a time of 3:10.08.
  • 500 Yard Free – Beyer paced the team with a third place finish, tallying a time of 6:40.19.
  • 50 Yard Fly - Mamica finished in second place, touching the wall in 30.53 seconds.
  • 200 Yard IM – Niemczyk was the lone Blue Jay in the event, finishing in third after posting a time of 2:32.28.
  • 400 Free Relay - The team of Mamica, Poltronieri, freshman Peyton Tyler (Killingworth, Conn.) and Grech finished in second after combining for a time of 4:18.15.

UP NEXT

The Blue Jays round out the 2024-25 regular season on the road at intrastate foes Eastern Connecticut on Saturday, January 25. The dual meet against the Warriors inside the ECSU Sports Center in Willimantic, Conn., is set for 1:00 p.m.
