
Women's Swimming & Diving Competes Against Trinity and Clark Saturday Afternoon
HARTFORD, Conn. - The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) women's swimming and diving team returned to the pool Saturday afternoon, dropping a double-dual meet against local foes Trinity College and Clark University inside the Trinity Natatorium in Hartford, Conn. The Blue Jays fell to the Bantams, 237-46, and the Cougars, 177-89.
TOP PERFORMANCES
- 200 Yard Medley Relay – The team of junior Julianna Violette (Rocky Hill, Conn.), senior Amy Mamica (Rocky Hill, Conn.), freshman Alina Niemczyk (Vernon, Conn.) and sophomore Alexia Grech (Burlington, Conn.) finished in seventh place after combining for a time of 2:14.13.
- 1000 Yard Free – Niemczyk paced the team in the event, placing fourth with a time of 12:44.66.
- 200 Yard Free – Freshmen Charlotte Poltronieri (Enfield, Conn.) was the lone Blue Jay in the event, finishing seventh in a time of 2:23.30.
- 50 Yard Back - Violette led the team with a fifth place finish, touching the wall in 35.90 seconds.
- 50 Yard Breaststroke – Grech paced USJ in the event, finihing in seventh place with a time of 39.29 seconds.
- 50 Yard Free - Grech paced the team, finishing in fifth after recording a time of 28.40 seconds.
- 1 Meter Diving - Sophomore Sophia Simoes (Watertown, Conn.) finished in third place, recording a score of 139.85 points.
- 100 Yard Free - Grech finished in sixth place, posting a time of 1:02.16.
- 100 Yard Back - Violette paced USJ with a fourth place finish after notching a time of 1:17.76.
- 100 Yard Breaststroke - Sophomore Isabella Castrillo (Rocky Hill, Conn.) finished in sixth place, touching the wall in a time of 1:31.05.
- 500 Yard Free – Poltronieri paced the team with a sixth place finish, tallying a time of 6:25.30.
- 50 Yard Fly - Niemczyk finished in eighth place, touching the wall in 30.59 seconds.
- 3 Meter Diving - Simoes finished in second place, recording a score of 131.35 points.
- 100 Yard IM – Violette finished in sixth place, recording a time of 1:17.52.
- 800 Free Relay - The team of Mamica, Poltronieri, freshman Peyton Tyler (Killingworth, Conn.) and Niemczyk finished in fourth after combining for a time of 9:44.97.
UP NEXT
The Blue Jays return to the pool on Saturday, Janauary 18, hosting Gordon inside the Bruyette Natatorium in West Hartford. The meet will serve as Senior Day for the Blue Jays.
