Women's Swimming & Diving Finishes Sixth at Jayden Szkirka Memorial Championships
MIDDLETOWN, Conn. - Freshman Alina Niemczyk (Vernon, Conn.) of the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) women's swimming and diving team continued her record breaking campaign, setting new freshman program record in the 100 yard fly as the Blue Jays rounded out the Jayden Szkirka Memorial Championships, hosted by Wesleyan University, Saturday inside the Webster Family Natatorium in Middletown, Conn. USJ tallied a final score of 193 to finish in sixth, besting Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) foes Albertus Magnus College and Elms College.
TOP PERFORMANCES
- 100 Yard Fly - Niemczyk set a new freshman program record, recording a time of 1:04.28 to finish in 22nd.
- 400 Yard IM - Niemczyk was the lone Blue Jay in the event, finishing in 14th place with a time of 5:20.43.
- 200 Yard Free - Senior Amy Mamica (Rocky Hill, Conn.) topped the timing sheet for USJ, finishing in 43rd with a time of 2:15.04.
- 100 Yard Breaststroke - Sophomore Isabella Castrillo (Rocky Hill, Conn.) finished in 27th place, tallying a time of 1:34.91.
- 100 Yard Back - Junior Julianna Violette (Rocky Hill, Conn.), placed 25th after posting a time of 1:14.76.
- 200 Yard Medley Relay – The team of Violette, Mamica, Niemczyk and sophomore Alexia Grech (Burlington, Conn.) finished in 20th place, combining for a time of 2:08.77.
- 3 Meter Diving - Sophomore Sophia Simoes (Watertown, Conn.) paced the team, finishing in 8th place after posting a score of 130.25.
- 1 Meter Diving - Junior Chandler Douglas (North Haven, Conn.) finished in 10th place, tallying a score of 139.05.
- 1650 Yard Free – Senior Emily Beyer (Prospect, Conn.) paced the team with a 16th place finish, recording a time of 23:22.90.
- 200 Yard Back - Sophomore Karina Deros was the lone Blue Jay in the event, finishing in 21st with a time of 3:06.60.
- 100 Yard Free - Mamica topped the timing sheet for USJ, finishing in 48th after posting a time of 1:01.17.
- 200 Yard Fly - Niemczyk finished in 18th place, posting a time of 2:27.69.
- 400 Yard Free Relay - The team of Mamica, Niemczyk, freshman Peyton Tyler (Killingworth, Conn.) and Grech finished in 18th place, combining for a time of 4:08.76.
UP NEXT
The Blue Jays take the rest of December off before heading to Florida for their annual training trip. USJ will head to Deerfield Beach, Fla., from January 3 through January 10.
