
Women's Swimming & Diving Sits Sixth After Opening Night of Jayden Szkirka Memorial Championships
MIDDLETOWN, Conn. - Freshman Alina Niemczyk (Vernon, Conn.) of the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) women's swimming and diving team set a new freshman program record in the 200 IM as the Blue Jays rounded out the opening day of the Jayden Szkirka Memorial Championships, hosted by Wesleyan University, Friday night inside the Webster Family Natatorium in Middletown, Conn. USJ tallied a score of 67 on the night to sit in sixth place after the first day of competition.
TOP PERFORMANCES
- 200 Yard Free Relay – The team of senior Amy Mamica (Rocky Hill, Conn.), sophomore Alexia Grech (Burlington, Conn.), freshman Charlotte Poltronieri (Enfield, Conn.), and Niemczyk finished in 16th place, combining for a time of 1:50.79.
- 500 Yard Free – Mamica paced the Blue Jays with a 26th place finish, touching the wall in a time of 6:04.36.
- 200 Yard IM – Niemczyk set a new freshman record in the event, finishing in a time of 2:25.99 to finish in 21st.
- 50 Yard Free – Freshman Peyton Tyler (Killingworth, Conn.) led the team, recording a time of 28.75 to finish in 58th.
- 400 Yard Medley Relay – The team of junior Julianna Violette (Rocky Hill, Conn.), Mamica, Niemczyk and Grech finished in 18th place, combining for a time of 4:46.20.

The Blue Jays round out the Jayden Szkirka Memorial Championships tomorrow, Saturday, December 7. The action inside the Webster Family Natatorium in Middletown, Conn. is set to begin at 10:00 a.m.
