Women's Swimming & Diving Competes at Friday Night Sprints

NEW BRITAIN, Conn. – The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) women's swimming and diving team continued the 2024-25 campaign Friday night, taking part in the Friday Night Sprints, hosted by Central Connecticut State University (CCSU) at the Jack Suydam Natatorium in New Britain, Conn. The Blue Jays competed against the Division I Blue Devils as well as Division II Southern Connecticut State University across several events.
 
TOP PERFORMANCES 

  • 200 Yard Medley Relay – The team of junior Julianna Violette (Rocky Hill, Conn.), senior Amy Mamica (Rocky Hill, Conn.), freshman Alina Niemczyk (Vernon, Conn.) and sophomore Alexia Grech (Burlington, Conn.) finished in fifth place, combining for a time of 2:11.52.
  • 200 Yard Free – Senior Emily Beyer (Prospect, Conn.) paced the Blue Jays, finishing in 13th place after touching the wall in a time of 2:33.74.
  • 50 Yard Back - Violette lead USJ in the event, finishing in sixth place with a time of 35.09 seconds.
  • 100 Yard Fly - Niemczyk finished in eighth place, posting a time of 1:06.43.
  • 50 Yard Free – Grech paced the team in the event, finishing in 13th place after touching the wall in a time of 28.23 seconds.
  • 100 Yard Breaststroke - Sophomore Isabella Castrillo (Rocky Hill, Conn.) recorded a fourth place finish with a time of 1:31.01.
  • 50 Yard Fly - Mamica tied for 16th place, posting a time of 29.84 seconds.
  • 100 Yard Back - Violette paced the team, finishing in fourth with a time of 1:18.27.
  • 50 Yard Breaststroke – Castrillo paced the team, finishing in 11th with a time of 41.45 seconds.
  • 100 Yard Free - Grech topped the team with an 11th place finish, posting a time of 1:04.83.
  • 100 Yard IM – Violette finished in 15th, recording a time of 1:18.48.
  • 200 Yard Free Relay - The team of Mamica, Niemczyk, freshman Charlotte Poltronieri (Enfield, Conn.) and Grech finished in fifth place, combining for a time of 1:57.31.

UP NEXT 

The Blue Jays return to the pool next on Saturday, November 16, for a dual meet at Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) foes Norwich University. The meet against the Cadets at Goodyear Pool in Northfield, Vt., is slated to begin at 12:00 p.m.
