Women's Swimming & Diving Defeats Albertus Magnus and Saint Joseph's Maine Saturday Afternoon
WEST HARTFORD, Conn. - The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) women's swimming and diving team swept a home double-dual meet, defeating Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) foes Albertus Magnus College and Saint Joseph's College of Maine Saturday afternoon inside Bruyette Natatorium in West Hartford, Conn. The Blue Jays bested the Falcons by a score of 154-55 and the Monks, 119-100.
TOP PERFORMANCES
- 200 Yard Medley Relay – The team of junior Julianna Violette (Rocky Hill, Conn.), senior Amy Mamica (Rocky Hill, Conn.), freshman Alina Niemczyk (Vernon, Conn.), sophomore Alexia Grech (Burlington, Conn.) won the event, combining for a time of 2:11.34.
- 1000 Yard Free – Sophomore Kate Ostrowski (Wyckoff, N.J.) paced USJ in the event, finishing in third after touching the wall in a time 14:06.12.
- 200 Yard Free – Mamica placed second, posting a time of 2:17.12.
- 50 Yard Free – Grech recorded a second place finish, recording a time of 28.05 seconds.
- 200 Yard IM - Niemczyk won the event for the Blue Jays, posting a time of 2:28.46.
- 200 Yard Fly - Niemczyk won her second consecutive event, recording a time of 2:35.87.
- 100 Yard Free – Grech paced USJ, finishing in third with a time of 1:03.35.
- 200 Yard Back - Freshman Charlotte Poltronieri (Enfield, Conn.) finished in third place, posting a time of 2:40.40.
- 500 Yard Free – Violette paced USJ, finishing in fourth place with a time of 6:34.20.
- 1 Meter Diving - Junior Chandler Douglas (North Haven, Conn.) won the event for USJ after posting an 11-dives score of 165.25 points.
- 200 Yard Breaststroke – Mamica lead the Blue Jays, finishing in fourth after touching the wall in a time of 3:04.24.
- 200 Yard Free Relay - The team of sophomore Karina Deros (Watertown, Conn.), freshman Peyton Tyler (Killingworth, Conn.), Ostrowski and Poltronieri won the event, combining for a time of 2:03.99.
UP NEXT
The Blue Jays head on the road, traveling to nearby New Britain, Conn., for the Central Connecticut State University (CCSU) Sprint Meet on Friday, November 8. Held inside the Jack Suydam Natatoirum on the campus of CCSU, the meet is slated to begin at 5:00 p.m.
