Women's Swimming & Diving Competes in Blue Jay Pentathlon

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) women's swimming and diving team made their 2024-25 Bruyette Natatorium debut on Friday night, competing in the Blue Jay Pentathlon. The Blue Jays, alongside Albertus Magnus College, Elms College, Eastern Connecticut State University, Western New England and Westfield State University, took part in an individual-based set of events, where the best combined time over five events would be declared the winner. Freshman Alina Niemczyk (Vernon, Conn.) topped the charts for the women's team, finishing in fifth. 
 
TOP PERFORMANCES 

  • Niemczyk finished fifth after posting a time of 3:16.76
  • Senior Amy Mamica (Rocky Hill, Conn.) was second for the Blue Jays, finishing in 15th after posting a combined time of 3:25.49
  • Freshman Charlotte Poltronieri (Enfield, Conn.) rounded out the top-three for USJ, placing 22nd with a time of 3:34.98
  • Sophomore Julianna Violette (Rocky Hill, Conn.) recorded a 26th place finish with a time of 3:36.69, while sophomore Alexia Grech (Burlington, Conn.) finished in 32nd with a time of 3:50.61
  • Freshman Peyton Tyler (Killingworth, Conn.) posted a 34th place finish after combining for a time of 3:54.14, followed by sophomore Kate Ostrowski (Wyckoff, N.J.) in 36th place with a time of 3:55.56.
  • Sophomore Angelina Bernardi (Middlebury, Conn.) posted a 44th place finish with a time of 3:47.75, while freshman Jodie Hammond (Newington, Conn.) recorded a 50th place finish with a time of 4:01.93
  • Sophomores Karina Deros (Watertown, Conn.) and Isabella Castrillo (Rocky Hill, Conn.) and freshman Ella Mackenzie (Southington, Conn.) rounded out the USJ lineup, finishing in 38th 40th and 41st place, respectively.
  • Junior Chandler Douglas (North Haven, Conn.) and sophomores Kira Geiger (Watertown, Conn.) and Sophia Simoes (Watertown, Conn.) also competed in the 1-meter diving during the event, finishing in second, third, and fourth respectively. Douglas posted a score of 165.70, while Simoes tallied 146.10 points and Geiger notched 137.60 points after completing six dives.

UP NEXT 

The Blue Jays return to the pool next on Saturday, October 26, hosting a double-dual meet against Husson and Plymouth State inside the Bruyette Natatorium. The meet is scheduled to start at 10:00 am.
