
Women's Swimming & Diving Bests Regis to Begin 2024-25 Season
WESTON, Mass. – The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) women's swimming and diving team opened its 2024-25 season in winning fashion Friday night, defeating Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) foe Regis College (Regis), 141-126, inside Regis Pool in Weston, Mass. The victory marked the first time in USJ history that the women's swimming and diving team defeated the Pride in a duel meet.
TOP PERFORMANCES
- 200 Yard Medley Relay – The team of junior Julianna Violette (Rocky Hill, Conn.), senior Amy Mamica (Rocky Hill, Conn.), freshman Alina Niemczyk (Vernon, Conn.) sophomore Alexia Grech (Burlington, Conn.) won the event, combining for a time of 2:09.03.
- 1000 Yard Free – Sophomore Kate Ostrowski (Wyckoff, N.J.) paced the Blue Jays, finishing in third with a time of 14:04.16.
- 200 Yard Free – Mamica won the event for USJ, touching the wall in a time of 2:14.85.
- 50 Yard Back - Freshmen Charlotte Poltronieri (Enfield, Conn.) led the Blue Jays, fininshing in second place with a time of 33.89 seconds.
- 50 Yard Breaststroke – Mamica placed third in the event, recording a time of 38.69 seconds.
- 100 Yard Fly - Niemczyk continued her strong debut, winning the event with a time of 1:07.48.
- 50 Yard Free – Grech also maintained her dominate performances on the night, winning with a time of 27.85 seconds, nearly three seconds faster than the second-place finisher.
- 100 Yard Free – Grech notched her third victory of the day, winning the event in a time of 1:01.68.
- 100 Yard Back - Violette paced the Blue Jays, finishing in second with a time of 1:14.37.
- 100 Yard Breaststroke - Sophomore Isabella Castrillo (Rocky Hill, Conn.) topped the timing sheet for USJ, finishing in third after touching the wall in a time of 1:29.91
- 500 Yard Free – Freshman Peyton Tyler (Killingworth, Conn.) paced the Blue Jays, finishing in second place after recording a time of 6:42.31.
- 50 Yard Fly – Niemczyk won the event after touching the wall in 29.36 seconds.
- 1 Meter Diving - Sophomroe Kira Geiger (Watertown, Conn.) won the event for USJ, finishing with a score of 278.00 points.
- 100 Yard IM – Violette paced the Blue Jays in the event, posting a third place finish after recording a time of 1:15.74.
- 200 Yard Free Relay– The team of Mamica, Grech, Poltronieri and Niemczyk won the event after combining for a time of 1:54.31
UP NEXT
The Blue Jays return to West Hartford for their 2024-25 home debut on Friday, October 18, hosting the annual Blue Jay Pentathlon. The event inside the Bruyette Natatorium is set to begin at 5:00 p.m.
