Geiger, Niemczyk Earn GNAC Women's Swimming & Diving Weekly Awards
WINTHROP, Mass. – Sophomore Kira Geiger (Watertown, Conn.) and freshman Alina Niemczyk (Vernon, Conn.) of the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) women's swimming and diving team were named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Diver of the Week and Rookie of the Week, respectively, it was announced by the conference front office on Monday afternoon in its first weekly report of the 2024-25 season. The honor marked the first time that Geiger and Niemczyk earned a weekly conference accolade in their respective careers, and also the first time that a member of the women's swimming & diving team received a conference accolade since Brielle Bergeron '22 (Easthampton, Mass.) earned GNAC Diver of the Week on January 24, 2022.
Geiger had a stellar start to her 2024-25 campaign, winning the 1-meter diving event during the Blue Jays' victory over conference foe Regis College this past Friday, tallying a score of 278.00 points.
Niemczyk also had a dominate outing in her debut meet, winning every race she competed in during the Blue Jays' dual meet victory at Regis. She started the meet by swimming the butterfly leg of the 200-yard medley relay team, posting a split time of 29.25 seconds to secure the win for USJ. Niemczyk then took the victory in the 100-yard fly, posting a time of 1:07.48, before winning the 50-yard fly, recording a time of 29.36 seconds. The freshman rounded out her day by swimming on the winning 200-yard freestyle relay team, posting a split of 28.87 seconds.
UP NEXT
The Blue Jays make their 2024-25 debut inside the Bruyette Natatorium on Friday, October 18, hosting the annual Blue Jay Pentathlon. The pentathlon is scheduled to begin at 5:00 p.m.
