Mamica, Michaud Lead Blue Jays During Day Two of GNAC Championships

WORCESTER, Mass. – The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) women's swimming and diving team continued the 2024 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) championships on Saturday, maintaining the team's sixth-place standing, recording 297.5 points after the second day of action inside the WPI Sports & Recreation Center in Worcester, Mass. Freshman Kaia Michaud (Hamden, Conn.) and junior Amy Mamica (Rocky Hill, Con.) both brought home a bronze medal for USJ on the day.

TOP PERFORMANCES 

  • 200 Yard Free Relay – The team of sophomore Julianna Violette (Rocky Hill, Conn.), Mamica, Michaud and freshman Alexia Grech (Burlington, Conn.) finished in fifth, combining for a time of 1:49.96
  • 100 Yard Fly – Mmica picked up the first medal for the Blue Jays at the 2024 GNAC Championships, taking home the bronze after touching the wall in a time of 1:05.11.
  • 500 Yard Free - Senior Adelina Marcille (Waterford, Conn.) was the lone Blue Jay in the event, finishing in 16th with a time of 6:23.22.
  • 50 Yard Back – Freshman Karina Deros (Watertown, Conn.) recorded a 16th place finish, touching the wall in 39.61 seconds.
  • 50 Yard Free – Michaud topped the timing sheet for USJ, tying for sixth place after posting a time of 26.00 seconds.
  • 200 Yard Breaststroke – Freshman Isabella Castrillo (Rocky Hill, Conn.) finished in sixth, recording a time of 13:08.74
  • 100 Yard IM – Michaud took home the second bronze medal for USJ on the night, recording a time of 1:06.89.
  • 800 Yard Free Relay – The team of freshmen Kate Ostrowski (Wyckoff, N.J.) and Jodie Hammond (Newington, Conn.), sophomore Angelina Bernardi (Middlebury, Conn.) and Marcille finished in seventh, combining for a time of 10:03.62.
  • 1 Meter Diving – Sophomore Chandler Douglas (North Haven Conn.) paced USJ, finishing in fourth after posting a score of 314.90. Freshman Kira Geiger (Watertown, Conn.) trailed closely behind, finishing in fifth with 294.00 points.

UP NEXT
The Blue Jays conclude the GNAC Championships tomorrow, Sunday February 4. Prelims begin at 10:00 a.m. inside the WPI Sports & Recreation Center in Worcester, Mass., with finals beginning at roughly 6:00p.m.
