Women's Soccer Held on the Road at Simmons, 2-1, Wednesday Night

BRIGHTON, Mass. – The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) women's soccer team fell on the road at Simmons University (Simmons), 2-1, Wednesday night during Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action at Daly Field in Brighton, Mass. With the result, the Blue Jays move to 1-4-0 on the year and 1-1-0 in GNAC play, while the Sharks move to 1-2-0 overall and 1-1-0 in the conference.

KEY MOMENTS

  • The first half was a battle of the midfielder, as neither team could generate a clear-cut scoring chance.
  • However, the Sharks would find the breakthrough at the 39:48 mark, taking the lead, 1-0. The score would hold entering the halftime break.
  • USJ would equalize at the 58:39 mark as junior forward Christina Quitoni (Patchogue, N.Y.) and freshman midfielder Julia Loughman (Wolcott, Conn.) combined for a passing play that found junior forward Alana Picard (Windosr Locks, Conn.), who fired her shot into the goal, tying the game at 1-1.
  • It would be Simmons though that found the next goal, as they scored at the 77:41 mark, retaking the lead, 2-1.
  • USJ would not be able to generate a shot on target in the remainder of the game, as Simmons escaped with a 2-1 victory.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

  • Picard scored her fist goal of the season.
  • Simmons narrowly outshot USJ, 9-6.
  • Junior goalkeeper Allison Drake (Plymouth, Conn.) got the start in goal, recording four saves.

The Blue Jays make their 2024 debut on the USJ Soccer Field on Saturday, September 14, hosting Emmanuel College. Kickoff against the Saints is set for 2:30 p.m.
