Women's Soccer Falls on the Road at JWU, 2-0, Wednesday Night

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) women's soccer team battled strong, but fell on the road at Johnson & Wales University (JWU), 2-0, Wednesday night during Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play on the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex in Providence, R.I. With the result, the Blue Jays moved to 4-8-1 overall and 4-4-1 in the GNAC, while the Wildcats moved to 10-3-0 overall and 8-0-0 in conference play.

KEY MOMENTS

  • The Wildcats dominated the opening 45 minutes, outshooting USJ 10-1, but sophomore goalkeeper Madison Corcoran (Bristol, Conn.) would record five saves to keep the game scoreless entering the halftime break.
  • However, JWU would find the breakthrough at the 63:06 mark, taking a 1-0 lead.
  • The hosts quickly netted a second, scoring again three minutes later to extend the gap to 2-0.
  • USJ would not be able to breakthrough the JWU defense, as the Wildcats secured the 2-0 victory.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

  • Corcoran tallied nine saves on the night.
  • JWU outshot the Blue Jays 30-5.
  • The Wildcats held a 13-0 edge in corner kicks.

UP NEXT

The Blue Jays will look to get back to winning ways during a two-game homestand, starting with a matchup against Norwich University on Saturday, October 12. Opening kickoff against the Cadets on the USJ soccer Field in West Hartford, Conn., is set for 2:30 p.m.
