Women's Soccer Drops Regular Season Finale at Albertus Magnus Tuesday Night

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) women's soccer team dropped its 2024 regular season finale on the road at rivals Albertus Magnus College (Albertus Magnus), 2-1, Tuesday night at Celentano Field in New Haven, Conn. With the result, the Blue Jays conclude the regular season at 6-10-3 overall and 6-6-3 in the GNAC, while the Falcons improved to 10-4-4 overall and 8-4-3 in conference play.

KEY MOMENTS

  • After a quiet opening 15 minutes of play, the Falcons would break the deadlock with a goal at the 18:12 mark.
  • Neither offensive would generate a clear-cut opportunity during the remainder of the first half, as the hosts took a 1-0 lead into the halftime break.
  • The Blue Jays would find the equalizer at the 69:35 mark, as junior defender Zoe Zappone (Plymouth, Conn.) found senior midfielder Jelly Frigo (West Hartford, Conn.), who rifled the ball into th net, leveling the game at 1-1.
  • However, the Falcons would strike late, scoring the game-winner at the 83:58 mark, before holding off the Blue Jays to secure the victory, 2-1.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

  • Frigo netted her second goal of the year, while Zappone dished out her third assist of the campaign.
  • Sophomore goalkeeper Madison Corcoran (Bristol, Conn.) played all 90 minutes in net, tallying five saves.

UP NEXT

The Blue Jays earned the tenth-overall seed in the upcoming GNAC Playoffs, and will travel to face seventh-seeded Norwich University in the First Round on Thursday, October 31. Kickoff from Sabine Field in Northfield, Vt., is slated for 6:00 p.m.
