
Women's Soccer Takes Down Norwich at Home Saturday Afternoon, 2-0
WEST HARTFORD, Conn. - The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) women's soccer team blanked the visiting Norwich University (Norwich) Cadets, 2-0, Saturday afternoon during Great Northeast Atheltic Conference (GNAC) play on the USJ Soccer Field in West Hartford, Conn. With the result, the Blue Jays moved to 5-8-1 overall and 5-4-1 in the GNAC, while the Cadets dropped to 7-4-2 overall and 5-3-2 in the GNAC.
KEY MOMENTS
- USJ controlled the opening half hour of the contest, peppering the Norwich net, but were unable to find the games first goal.
- However, junior forward Alana Picard (Windsor Locks, Conn.) would break the deadlock at the 31:17 mark, as sophomore Julia Freimuth (Terryville, Conn.) picked out a pass to Picard, who fired her shot into the goal, giving USJ the 1-0 edge.
- The Blue Jays prevented Norwich from recording a shot in the remainder of the half, holding on to the 1-0 lead.
- Junior defender Zoe Zappone (Plymouth, Conn.) doubled the USJ lead at the 63:51 mark, scoring a solo goal to increase the gap to 2-0.
- Sophomore goalkeeper Madison Corcoran (Bristol, Conn.) would come up big for the Blue Jays in the closing moments, tallying four saves inside the last 10 minutes to preserve the cleansheet, and the victory, 2-0.
