
Women's Soccer Shuts Out Anna Maria at Home Saturday, 2-0
WEST HARTFORD, Conn. - The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) women's soccer team got back to winning ways Saturday afternoon, shutting out Anna Maria College (AMC), 2-0, during Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play on the USJ Soccer Field in West Hartford, Conn. With the result, the Blue Jays move to 4-7-1 overall and 4-3-1 in conference play, while the AMCATS drop to 1-6-2 on the year and 1-4-2 in the GNAC.
KEY MOMENTS
- The game started as a back-and-forth affair, as sophomore goalkeeper Madison Corcoran (Bristol, Conn.) tallied two saves in the 26th and 27th minute to keep the game scoreless.
- USJ would reward their goalkeeper at the 40:01 mark, as senior forward Kelsi Ursini (Groton, Conn.) picked out a pass to classmate Ava Kriak (Vernon, Conn.), who fired the ball into the net and established a 1-0 USJ lead. The score would hold entering halftime.
- The Blue Jays dominated the opening portion of the second half, scoring their second goal of the game at the 68:55 mark as senior midfielder Jenna Zup (berlin, Conn.) found senior defender Gabby Gulino (Wethersfield, Conn.) who rifled her shot into the goal, increasing the gap to 2-0.
- USJ would be stout defensively for the remainder of the game, preserving the shutout, 2-0.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Kriak and Guilino both netted their first goals of the season.
- Corcoran tallied two saves across 80:50 minutes of play.
- Junior Allison Drake (Plymouth, Conn.) played the remaining 9:10 minutes in goal.
