Women's Soccer Plays to 2-2 Draw at Lasell Wednesday Afternoon

NEWTON, Mass. – The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) women's soccer team settled for a 2-2 draw against Lasell University (Lasell) during Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play Wednesday afternoon at Taylor Field in Newton, Mass. With the result, the Blue Jays move to 2-6-1 on the year and 2-2-1 in GNAC play, while the Lasers move to 3-2-2 overall and 2-1-2 in the conference.

KEY MOMENTS

  • USJ scored the games opening goal at the 17:53 mark as senior forward Jelly Frigo (West Hartford, Conn.) slid a through-ball into the path of junior forward Alana Picard (Windsor Locks, Conn.), who slotted the ball home and established a 1-0 USJ lead.
  • Lasell answered back late in the first half, leveling the game at the 41:55 mark to send the two teams into the halftime break deadlocked at 1-1.
  • After a slow start to the second half, USJ would regain the lead as junior defender Zoe Zappone (Plymouth, Conn.) found senior forward Kelsi Ursini (Groton, Conn.) who fired her shot past the Lasers goalkeeper to establish a 2-1 Blue Jays lead at the 62:38 mark.
  • The Lasers quickly equalized though, scoring at the 65:17 mark to tie the game at 2-2.
  • Neither team would find the winning goal in the last 25 minutes as play, as USJ and Lasell settled for a 2-2 draw.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

  • Lasell held a narrow 8-7 lead in shots.
  • The Lasers also had a 6-1 edge in corner kicks.
  • Sophomore goalkeeper Madison Corcoran (Bristol, Conn.) played all 90 minutes in net for USJ, tallying two saves.

The Blue Jays conclude a two-game road trip at New England College on Saturday, September 28. Kickoff against the Pilgrims at Don Melander Field in Henniker, N.H., is set for 5:00 p.m.
