Women's Soccer Announces 2024 Schedule
WEST HARTFORD, Conn. - The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) women's soccer team and fourth-year head coach Jenna Kalwa have announced the schedule for the upcoming 2024 season. Highlighting the Blue Jays' 20-game regular-season slate are nine home matches which are set to be played on the USJ Soccer Field on the campus of USJ.
FULL 2024 WOMEN'S SOCCER SCHEDULE
The women's soccer team kicks off the 2024 campaign with five consecutive road matches, starting with a trip to intrastate and Little East Conference (LEC) foe Western Connecticut State University (WCSU) on Friday, August 30 in Danbury, Conn. Kickoff against the Wolves is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. The Blue Jays remain in Danbury for a match the following day, meeting Farmingdale State of the Skyline Conference on the pitch for a 2:00 p.m. kickoff on WCSU's Westside Athletic Complex on Saturday, August 31.
USJ remains in Connecticut for its following match, heading east to New London for a match at Connecticut College of the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) on Tuesday, September 3 at 4:30 p.m. The Blue Jays then begin Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play, heading to Standish, Maine, for a battle of the Saint Joseph's, facing Saint Joseph's College of Maine on Saturday, September 7, at 3:00 p.m. The women's soccer team rounds out its opening five game road trip to start the season at Simmons University on Wednesday, September 11. Kickoff against the Sharks in Boston is set for 7:00 p.m.
The Blue Jays makes its 2024 home debut at the USJ Soccer Field on Saturday, September 14, welcoming Emmanuel College, before hosting Dean College on Tuesday, September 17. Kickoff against the Saints is set for 2:30 p.m., and the matchup against the Bulldogs is slated for 3:30 p.m. USJ follows up the two game homestand with a trip down Albany Avenue, heading to local foes the University of Hartford of the Conference of New England (CNE) on Wednesday, September 18 at 6:00 p.m. The team concludes non-conference play on Saturday, September 21, welcoming Union College to the USJ Soccer Field for a noon kickoff.
Rounding out the month of September, Saint Joseph hits the road for a two-match road trip, first stopping in Newton, Mass., for a meeting against Lasell University on Wednesday, September 25, before heading north to Henniker, N.H., for a game at New England College on Saturday, September 28. Start time against the Lasers is scheduled for 4:00 p.m., while the meeting with the Pilgrims is set for 5:00 p.m.
When the calendar flips over to October, women's soccer starts the second half of the season with a home match against Regis College on Tuesday, October 1 at 6:00 p.m. The Blue Jays then battle Anna Maria College in WeHa on Saturday, October 5 at noon, before heading to the four-time defending GNAC champions, Johnson & Wales University on Wednesday, October 9. Kickoff against the Wildcats in Providence, R.I., is slated for 7:00 p.m. The Blue Jays then return home for two matches, starting with a matchup against Norwich University on Saturday, October 12, before hosting Elms College on Tuesday, October 15. Start time against the Cadets is set for 2:30 p.m., while the game against the Blazers is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
The Blue Jays begin its final stretch of the regular season with a trip in Nashua, N.H., facing Rivier University on Saturday, October 19 at 3:00 p.m. USJ then returns to WeHa for their final two regular season home games, starting with a match against intrastate foes Mitchell College on Wednesday, October 23 at 6:00 p.m., before hosting Colby-Sawyer for a 3:00 p.m. kickoff on Saturday, October 26. The Blue Jays conclude the 2024 regular season on the road, heading down to New Haven, Conn., for a battle with GNAC rivals Albertus Magnus College on Tuesday, October 29 at 6:00 p.m.
The top-ten teams in the league standings advance to the 2024 GNAC Tournament, which is set to begin with the first round on Thursday, October 31, with the seventh and eight seeds serving as hosts. The quarterfinals will be held on Saturday, November 2 and are hosted by the top-four seeds, followed by the Semifinals on Tuesday, November 5, which will be hosted by the remaining two highest seeds. The 2024 GNAC Championship Match is set for Saturday, November 9 and will be hosted by the highest remaining seed.
The Blue Jays finished sixth in the regular-season standings at the conclusion of the 2023 campaign and earned a berth to the postseason tournament for the 23rd consecutive season, extending the all-time school record for longest postseason streak by any USJ team. As the sixth seed, the Blue Jays were matched up against third-seeded Lasell in the GNAC Quarterfinals, falling to the Lasers, 2-1.
