Women's Soccer Plays To Scoreless Tie Versus Monks Saturday

STANDISH, Maine - The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) and Saint Joseph's College of Maine (SJC) dueled to a scoreless double-overtime tie in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's soccer contest at the SJC Athletics Complex on Saturday afternoon. It marks the first draw of the 2019 season for the Blue Jays as they move to 10-2-1 overall and 5-2-1 in the GNAC, while the Monks move to 9-2-2 and 5-1-1.

As the score indicates, the game proved to be incredibly even with neither team mounting a serious scoring threat and both sides posting similar statistics. The Monks tallied 14 shots with five on goal and four corner kicks while the Blue Jays recorded 16 shots with six on goal and five corner kicks.

In goal, SJC sophomore Adia Grogan (Kennebunk, Maine) steered away six shots while USJ sophomore netminder Lindsey Montminy notched five saves in the stalemate.

For the Monks, the deadlock brings an end to the team's three-game winning streak versus the Blue Jays but extends the hosts' undefeated string against USJ to six contests. Saint Joseph's is now 8-3-4 all-time versus the University of Saint Joseph.

The scoreless tie is the first in the 15-game history of the series between SJC and USJ and the first for the Monks since they played to a 0-0 score with Albertus Magnus College on September 10th, 2016. It marks the first scoreless tie for USJ since they played to a double-overtime stalemate with Lasell College in the GNAC Semifinal on November 3rd, 2015, but would ultimately fall to the Lasers in penalty kicks, 6-5.
