Wildcats Go Wild, Defeat Women's Soccer In GNAC Contest, 7-1

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The winning streak is over for the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) women's soccer team, who fell to a tough and talented Johnson & Wales University (JWU) team, 7-1, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) contest Wednesday night, at the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex.

With the victory, the Wildcats improve to 8-5-0 (6-0-0 GNAC) and remain atop the conference, while the Blue Jays dip to 10-2-0 overall and 5-2-0 in the conference. The loss ends USJ's six-game winning streak. It is also the fifth straight loss to JWU dating back to 2015.

Four different Wildcats scored within 27 minutes to blow it open, as junior Olivia Cairrao (Bristol, R.I.), sophomore Jordan Restivo (Utica, N.Y.), freshman Chloe Henriksen (Statham, N.H.) and freshman Jordan Petrucci (Warwick, R.I.) all found the net in the first half. It was more than enough to hold off the Blue Jays, who despite a goal from sophomore midfielder Rylee Snow (West Greenwich, R.I.), could not find the net enough to get back in it.

Sophomore goalie Lindsey Montminy (Vernon, Conn.), who came into the night allowing five goals all season, allowed seven goals and saved 10. Senior goalie Colleen Lynch (New Milford, Conn.) picked up the win, allowing one goal and recording two saves.

JWU dominated in shots, 28-6 (18-0 in first half) and shots on goal (17-0). Six different Wildcats scored, with Cairrao scoring two goals. JWU remains the only unbeaten team in the GNAC, as the Blue Jays look to bounce back against another top-five conference opponent in Saint Joseph's (ME) on Saturday.

The USJ women's soccer team returns to the pitch for another GNAC matchup on Saturday, October 12, at Saint Joseph's Maine. Kick-off is scheduled for 4:00 p.m in the 'Cerebral Palsy Awareness Game'.
