Soccer Doubles Up Rivier Wednesday, 2-1

Nashua, N.H. - The University of Saint Joseph doubled up the Rivier Raiders, 2-1, on the road on Wednesday night in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's soccer tilt on Raider Field to improve to 7-3-1 overall on the season and 5-2-0 in conference play. Rivier slips to 1-6-1 and 0-5-1 with the setback.

Saint Joseph got on the board early in the first half when junior Amanda Ghent (Portland, Conn.) knocked home a pass from classmate Rileigh Luba (Bristol, Conn.) in the 14th minute. The goal marked a team-best 10th of the season for Ghent who is having a career year for the Blue Jays.

Rivier would answer right back before the half came to a close when sophomore Katie Wogan (Dunstable, Mass.) placed a free kick into the far upper corner of the net. It was Wogan's second goal of the season and the second of her career.

USJ would get the eventual game-winner in the 52nd minute when senior Jessica Spezzano (Watertown, Conn.) collected her own rebound and knocked it home to account for the 2-1 victory.

Rivier's senior goalkeeper Lauren Goodspeed (Merrimack, N.H.) had another monstrous game in goal as she made 11 saves. USJ sophomore keeper Megan Ricci (Center Moriches, N.Y.) stopped one of the two shots she faced on the night.

The USJ soccer team will return to the pitch next on Saturday when they host GNAC foe Suffolk on the USJ Soccer Field at 1 p.m. Next up for the Raiders will be a trip north to Standish, Maine for a GNAC date with Saint Joseph's College on Saturday afternoon.
