
LeGault's Eight Goals Powers Women's Lacrosse Past Bard in Season Opener, 21-14
ANNONDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) women's lacrosse team opened its 2025 season with a resounding 21-14 win on the road at Bard College (Bard) Saturday afternoon at the Ferrari Soccer & Lacrosse Complex in Annandale-On-Hudson, N.Y. Sophomore attack Anna LeGault (Colchester, Conn.) scored a career-high eight goals and added an assist for a nine-point game to eclipse 100 career points and pace the offense on the day. With the result, the Blue Jays opened the year 1-0 overall, while the Raptors dropped to 0-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- LeGault wasted little time opening the scoring, finding the back of the net at the 12:34 mark to give USJ the lead.
- Bard would respond with two unanswered goals, holding a 2-1 edge with 10:42 on the clock.
- USJ began to pull away though, scoring five unanswered goals, as freshman midfielder Kaylynn Lapointe (Bristol, Conn.) scored once, while junior midfielder Alana Picard (Windsor Locks, Conn.) and LeGault both scored twice, establishing a 6-2 Blue Jays lead with 1:14 left in the first.
- Bard would fire back with two goals in rapid succession to close out the quarter, cutting the gap to 6-4 entering the second.
- The Blue Jays would find the back of the net first in the second quarter, as LeGault and Picard netted back-to-back strikes, increasing the lead to 8-4 at the 10:60 mark.
- Bard would close the score to 8-5, but Lapointe and sophomore midfielder Reagan Buscetto (Montville, Conn.) answered with goals, reestablishing a five-goal lead, 10-5, with 3:19 left in the half.
- The Raptors would score two unanswered to close out the half, cutting the score to 10-7 entering the halftime break.
- After the hosts scored twice to open the second half, USJ responded with four-unanswered, as LeGault, Buscetto and Lapointe would all score, increasing the gap back to five, 14-9, with 8:08 on the clock.
- Bard answered with two straight goals, but LeGault and sophomore midfielder Paige Rieger (New Fairfield, Conn.) would both score free position goals, sending USJ into the fourth quarter with a 16-11 edge.
- The two teams traded goals to open the fourth, as LeGault netted her seventh goal of the game, while Picard netted her fourth, as the Blue Jays held a 18-13 edge with 6:48 left to play.
- LeGault, Lapointe and Picard then put the game out of reach with a three-goal swing to close out the game, securing the win for USJ, 21-14.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- LeGault finished with a game-high eight goals and added an assist for a nine-point outing.
- The sophomore now has 102 career points in 18 career games with 58 career goals and 44 career assists.
- Picard found the back of the net five times, while also dishing out a team-best five assists.
- Lapointe scored four goals in her collegiate debut.
- Buscetto also netted a hattrick, scoring three goals while dishing out one assist.
- Junior Colleen Stringer (Point Lookout, N.Y.) played all 60 minutes in the cage for USJ, recording six saves.
