Lasers On Point, Defeat W-LAX 21-8

NEWTON, Mass.— The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) women's lacrosse team hung around early, but could not withstand the offensive force of Lasell College (LC), taking the loss, 21-8 on Grellier Field Saturday afternoon.

The Lasers (11-3, 6-2 GNAC) have won four straight, while the Blue Jays (2-10, 0-9 GNAC) have dropped the last five. Senior midfielder Jordan McComb (Cumberland, R.I.) tied a game-high with five goals. She also had a game-high three assists. Junior attack Charlotte Eberhardt (Thomaston, Conn.) matched a game-high with five goals for the Blue Jays. Freshman midfielder Jenna Banta (Montville, Conn.) continued her scoring streak, scoring in all but one game this season. She finished with two goals in a losing effort.

The Lasers were playing with a little added motivation, honoring their three seniors on senior day. LC dominated in shots (41-17) and ground balls (18-5), and it showed in the end. McComb opened things up with a goal in the first minute and a half, but Banta and USJ responded with an unassisted goal just seconds later. The Blue Jays kept it even the first three minutes, the score 2-2, when the Lasers went on a tear, scoring eight goals in nine minutes to take a 10-3 lead.

Eberhardt and Banta answered with back-to-back goals to cut it back to five, 10-5, with 12:00 left in the first half. It was short lived though, as LC closed the half with six goals in the final eight minutes to take a commanding lead, 16-5 at the break.

USJ fought hard in the second half, but could not cut in to the lead, scoring just three goals in the second half.
