JWU Strong Throughout, Defeat WLAX, 21-4

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. — The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) women's lacrosse team was defeated by a tall and talented Johnson & Wales University (JWU) team 21-4 on the USJ Lacrosse Field Wednesday afternoon.

The Wildcats (9-4, 7-0 GNAC) have won three of their last four, while the Blue Jays (2-9, 0-8 GNAC) have lost four straight. Junior midfielder Maria Patane (Greenwich, N.Y.) had an impressive all around game, scoring three goals and dishing out four assists. Freshman attack Taya Valdez (East Lyme, Conn.) scored a team-high two goals for USJ.

The Wildcats dominated in draw controls (25-2) and ground balls (15-6), allowing for 28 more shots than the Blue Jays, leading to 17 more goals. USJ did hang tough in turnovers (11-6) and forced JWU into only 3-of-11 on free position shots, but the Wildcats remained in control from the getgo. After USJ scored the first goal of the game, JWU tacked on 17 straight to close out the half. The Blue Jays hung tough in the second half, but the Wildcats maintained the lead with poise in route to another victory.

The USJ women's lacrosse team will be back in action on Saturday, April 13 when they head to Lasell (MA) in another GNAC contest. The opening draw is set for 12:00 p.m. JWU will play Saint Joseph's (ME) on Saturday, April 13 at 1:00 p.m.
