Lacrosse Upended at Johnson & Wales Saturday

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The University of Saint Joseph women's lacrosse team was upended on the road by the Johnson & Wales University Wildcats, 20-0, at the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex on Saturday afternoon in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) match. With the setback, the Blue Jays drop to 1-5 overall and 0-5 in GNAC play while the Wildcats improve to 8-1 overall and remain undefeated in the league at 5-0. USJ will be back in action next at home on Tuesday night versus Mount Ida. The match will be played on Arute Field on the campus of Central Connecticut State University with the first draw slated for 7:00 p.m.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Johnson & Wales got out to a quick lead, scoring four times in the first four minutes of the game and would never look back in the 20-0 rout. Twelve different players scored in the first half as JWU took a 16-0 lead into the locker rooms.

The Wildcats would tack on four more goals in the second stanza to account for the final margin. Fifteen players found the back of the net for the Wildcats in the game, led by three from junior Allison Pazienski (New Hyde Park, N.Y.).

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

• Freshman attack Dani Lydecker (Valley Cottage, N.Y.) topped all players with six points on two goals and four assists.
• Sophomore Maria Patane (Greenwich, N.Y.) added a pair of goals and an assist for JWU while senior Raquel Pederzani (Coventry, R.I.) chipped in with three assists.
• Johnson & Wales won 17 of 22 draw controls and had 35 shots on goal while the Blue Jays were unable to record a single shot on goal. JWU also held a 29-14 advantage in ground balls.
• Senior Emily Bourassa (Bristol, Conn.) made 15 saves between the pipes for the Blue Jays but was dealt the loss to dip to 1-5 overall on the season. She also led the team in ground balls with five.
• Freshman Cassidy O'Hara (Mashpee, Mass.) and Pazienski split the game in net for JWU with O'Hara picking up the win to improve to 8-1 on the year.
