Lax Falls at Mitchell, 16-8

NEW LONDON, Conn. – The University of Saint Joseph lacrosse team dropped a 16-8 non-conference game to Mitchell College on Thursday afternoon at Alumni Field.

Mitchell improved to 4-3 on the season; USJ is 4-7.

Ashley Murtha (South Windsor, Conn.) led the way for Mitchell with 12 goals, which is the most in a single game this season in all of NCAA Division III.

Rose St. Hilaire (West Hartford, Conn.) finished with four goals and two assists to lead Saint Joseph. Danielle Bazzano (South Windsor, Conn.) and Hannah Lemek (Bristol, Conn.) chipped in with a pair of goals apiece. Goalkeeper Emily Bourassa (Bristol, Conn.) denied 10 shots in the loss.

Kate McCormack  (Narragansett, R.I) notched the game's first goal less than two minutes into the contest for Mitchell and St. Hilaire answered just over a minute later to tie the game. Murtha then took over for the Mariners, scoring four consecutive goals over a five-minute span to put Mitchell on top for good.

Murtha scored two more goals by the end of the half as Mitchell led 7-3 at the break. St. Hilaire opened the second-half scoring to cut the deficit to three, but Murtha scored three times in a four-goal run over a 6:20 spurt that put separation between the two sides.
