St. Hilaire: Record 11 Goals

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – University of Saint Joseph freshman Rose St. Hilaire (West Hartford, Conn.) scored a single-game school record 11 goals to help the Blue Jays lacrose team past Southern Vermont College, 16-9 Thursday in a non-conference game.

USJ improved to 3-2 overall on the season; Southern Vermont is 0-4.

St. Hilaire score six goals in the first half, five in the second and took 19 shots in the game, all of which were on goal. She easily broke the previous single-game goals record of eight, set by Rachel Foster last season. Hannah Lemek (Bristol, Conn.) scored two goals for USJ and Danielle Bazzano (South Windsor, Conn.), Vicky Thai (West Hartford, Conn.) and Amanda Van Buren had one apiece.

Hailee Walker (Cohoes, N.Y.) and Lauren Nesshoever (Chittenden, Verm.) scored three goals each to lead Southern Vermont. Meagan McSweeney (East Falmouth, Mass.) scored two times and Aubrey Vierstra (Saugerties, N.Y.) once for the Mountaineers.

Nesshoever and McSweeney had goals in the first five minutes to stake SVC to a 2-0 lead. St. Hilaire scored the first four USJ goals, but the Blue Jays also faced two other one-goal deficits in the first 25 minutes. Lemek scored her first goal to pull USJ into a 5-5 tie with 4:17 left in the half and St. Hilaire gave the Blue Jays the lead for good with her fifth goal on a free position shot with 3:11 remaining and added another with 41 seconds left in the half to make it 7-5 at halftime.

St. Hilaire scored her record-breaking ninth goal with 10:07 remaining in the game to put USJ up 13-7. She scored another 25 seconds later and put in No. 11 with 2:47 left.

USJ hosts Emmanuel in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference game, Sat. April 2 at 1 p.m.
