Lacrosse Earns Dramatic 8-7 Win

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – University of Saint Joseph freshman Rose St. Hilaire (West Hartford, Conn.) scored her third goal of the game with 4:43 to play to break a 7-all tie to help the USJ lacrosse team to an 8-7 victory over Daniel Webster College Thursday in a non-conference game.

USJ improved to 2-1 on the season; Daniel Webster is 1-4.

Hannah Lemek (Bristol, Conn.) also scored three times for USJ and Danielle Bazzano (South Windsor, Conn.) scored twice. St. Hilaire also had three assists.

Amanda Dargie (Melbourn, Fla.) scored four times for Daniel Webster and Madeline Roulier (Pittsfield, Mass.) scored three goals for the Eagles. Chelsea Longo (Watertown, Conn.) scooped up a match-high five ground balls for USJ and Mary Lam (Newington, Conn.) had four. Mackenzie Stone (Shelton, Conn.) had four ground balls for Daniel Webster.

USJ had scored the first five goals of the game and Daniel Webster pulled within 5-3 at halftime. USJ re-built its lead to 7-3 on Lemek's third goal with 19:38 to play, but again DWC came back. Roulier scored with 11:39 to play and Dargie ripped off three consecutive unassisted goals in 78 seconds to pull the Eagles even with 5:17 remaining.

Longo controlled the ensuing draw for USJ and an interior foul call gave St. Hilaire a free position shot that she converted for the eventual game-winner. USJ then managed the clock well and allowed DWC just one nine-second possession before the final horn.

USJ hosts Mount Ida, Sat. March 26 in a GNAC game at 1 p.m. Daniel Webster next plays host to Regis March 30, at 4 p.m.
