Lacrosse Wins First of Season, 15-1 over Bay Path

LONGMEADOW, Mass. – University of Saint Joseph freshman Rose St. Hilaire (West Hartford, Conn.) scored five goals to lead the USJ lacrosse team to a 15-1 victory over Bay Path Wednesday in a non-conference game at Ryan Field.

USJ improved to 1-1 overall on the season; Bay Path is 0-2.

Hannah Lemek (Bristol, Conn.) had a goal, two assists and picked up a game-high seven ground balls for USJ. Danielle Bazzano (South Windsor, Conn.), Vicky Thai (West Hartford, Conn.) and Amanda Van Buren (Burlington, Conn.) scored two goals apiece for the Blue Jays. Lindsey Stefens (Berlin, Conn.) added a goal and an assist.

St. Joseph led 13-0 at halftime and scored the first 15 goals before Bay Path scored with 35 minutes to play. Diamond Wallen (Hartford, Conn.) scored her first collegiate goal 57 seconds into the game to get the scoring started. St. Hilaire then scored twice, Van Buren netted the next two and Rachel Ryan (Newington, Conn.) scored her first goal to make it 6-0 after just eight minutes.

USJ outshot Bay Path 32-14. USJ goalkeeper Emily Bourassa (Bristol, Conn.) made nine saves.

USJ hosts Daniel Webster in its home opener Thursday, March 24 at 4 p.m.
