
Slisz Named GNAC Player of the Week
WINTHROP, Mass. – Junior guard Maya Slisz (New Britain, Conn.) of the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) women's basketball team was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Player of the Week, it was announced by the conference front office on Tuesday afternoon in its seventh weekly report of the 2023-24 season. It marks the first career GNAC weekly honor for Slisz and the first for the USJ women's basketball team this season.
Slisz had a stellar final weekend of 2023, being named to the All-Tournament Team of the Smith Holiday Classic after averaging 20.5 points, three assists and five rebounds across two games. The junior guard started the weekend with 14 points, four assists and three rebounds against the No. 8 nationally-ranked Smith Pioneers before rounding out the weekend with 27 points on 52.6 percent shooting, seven rebounds, two assists and three steals against UMass Dartmouth.
Slisz has taken a step-up in her junior campaign, averaging 14.8 points, good for second on the team and nearly three points more than last season. The New Britain native has been just as effective passing the ball, dishing out a team-high 3.6 assists per game. In addition to her offense prowess, Slisz has been a lockdown defender, swiping a team-high 2.5 stelas per game and hauling in 3.8 rebounds per game.
