Verboven Named to NEWBA Team of the Week

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – Senior guard Taylor Verboven (Columbia, Conn.) of the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) women's basketball team was selected to the New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA) All-Second Team, it was announced by association officials on Tuesday in its third weekly awards of the season. It marks the first career weekly NEWBA honor for Verboven, and the second for the Blue Jays this season.

Verboven lifted the Blue Jays to a 61-48 road win at WPI, the team's lone game last week, scoring a season-high 23 points while tallying 8 rebounds, one assist and two steals. Verboven was extremely efficient from the field, shooting 77.8 percent from the floor (7-of-9) while going 9-of-10 from the free-throw line. The senior is enjoying a stellar start to the season, leading the team with 8.4 rebounds and 4.6 assists per game, while scoring 10.0 points per contest.

Verboven and the Blue Jays head west to intrastate foe Western Connecticut State University tonight, Tuesday, November 28, for a 7:00 p.m. tipoff against the Wolves inside Stephen Feldman Arena in Danbury, Conn.

The New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA) provides support for coaches from the New England Region. Membership in NEWBA is open to all Division III head coaches from the region who have a vested interest in the welfare of the organization.
