
Slisz Named to NEWBA Team of the Week
WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – Junior guard Maya Slisz (New Britain, Conn.) of the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) women's basketball team was selected to the New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA) All-Second Team for the opening week of the year, it was announced by association officials on Wednesday in its first weekly awards. It marks the first career weekly NEWBA honor for Slisz, and the first for the Blue Jays this season.
Slisz paced the Blue Jays during a perfect 2-0 opening weekend, as the team won the Jamie L. Roberts Memorial Tournament. After averaging 18.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 3.0 steals per game, Slisz was named the Tournament MVP. She first dropped 19 points, while tallying four rebounds, three assists and three steals in a 82-55 win over Trinity (D.C.), before finishing off the weekend by playing all 40 minutes in the 63-50 win over hosts St. Mary's (Md.) in the championship game, posting 18 points, nine rebounds, four assists and three steals.

Slisz and the Blue Jays make their 2023-24 debut inside the James A. Calhoun Gymnasium, welcoming Lehman College on Friday, November 17 for the opening game of the 25th Annual USJ Tip-Off Tournament, presented by Coca-Cola Beverages Northeast. Tipoff against the Lightning in West Hartford is set for 6:00 p.m.

The New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA) provides support for coaches from the New England Region. Membership in NEWBA is open to all Division III head coaches from the region who have a vested interest in the welfare of the organization.
