Frigo Goes Off In 4th, Blue Jays Blast Cadets, 65-45

NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) women's basketball team prevailed in its regular season finale Saturday over the Cadets of Norwich University (NOR), 65-45, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) road matchup inside Andrews Hall.

With the win, the Blue Jays finish with a 14-10 overall mark in the regular season, including 10-7 in GNAC play, while the Cadets slip to 9-14 and 7-9 in conference games. Saint Joseph finishes fifth in the GNAC standings, and with the new 12-team format this season, will host its first GNAC Playoff game since the 1998 GNAC Title game against Albertus Magnus. That matchup will be on Tuesday, February 22 at 7:00 p.m. against 12-seeded Johnson & Wales University, which the Blue Jays beat on February 15.

GAME INFORMATION
Score: Saint Joseph 65, Norwich 45
Records: USJ 14-10 (10-7 GNAC), NOR 9-14 (7-9 GNAC)
Location: O'Connell Athletic Center | West Hartford, Conn.

USJ equaled its best record in the last 10 seasons, matching the 14-10 mark set by the Blue Jays in 2012-13. The 10-7 GNAC mark is the best conference win percentage the Blue Jays have had since going 8-4 in 2010-11. It's also the first postseason appearance overall for USJ since 2013-14.

Sophomore guard Jelly Frigo (Canton, Conn.) was the star Saturday scoring a career-high 20 points on 9-of-16 shooting. That is more FG than she made in the previous six games combined. She didn't just score though, hauling down five rebounds, dishing out five assists, and recording four steals. Sophomore forward Jordan Ouellette (Bristol, Conn.) also had a big game for USJ (16 Pts, 9 Reb, 4 Ast), shooting 8-for-16 from the floor. Freshman guard Haley Brewster (Virginia Beach, Va.) was impressive in her own right, scoring a team-high 20 points for the Cadets.

Fans were treated to an entertaining, back-and-forth battle in the first three quarters, with Saint Joseph taking a slim three-point halftime lead. The Cadets got down by as many as 11, but rallied to end the third and start the fourth, leading to a USJ timeout with 9:08 to play, and the score 41-38 in favor of the visitors. From there it would be all Blue Jays though, as they pushed the pace and relied on Frigo who caught fire and scored 12 of USJ's 24 fourth-quarter points. The 24 points scored by Saint Joseph was as much as the team scored in the entire first half. Norwich struggled for answers to the constant ball pressure and fast-paced transition game that got the Blue Jays well out in front for good.
